Smartprice
A personal and flexible ticketing solution for people who commute by train between their home office and work premises or to and from school.

Smartprice – in short
- The price decreases the more you travel.
- You get Smartprice in the Vy app.
- Keep track of the discount you have earned and how many days you have left.
More flexibility and a lower price
Smartprice gives you everyday flexibility and the price decreases the more you travel between to stations during a 30-day period.
Smartprice is aimed at people who commute by train between two specific train stations, with at least one of the stations you travel to/from being outside of the Ruter area. Smartprice applies to all train journeys with Vy throughout Eastern Norway.
When you activate Smartprice in the Vy app, you will receive a discount on any Single tickets you buy in a 30-day period. This discount will increase the more you commute. You will never pay more than the regular price for an ordinary 30-day Vy season ticket during the period.
Smart price applies to train journeys with Vy throughout Eastern Norway.
How to get Smartprice
- Buy a Single train ticket from Station A to Station B using the Vy app.
- If Smartprice is available on your route, you will be given the option to activate Smartprice before paying for your Single ticket.
- A new Smartprice period will start automatically the next time you buy a Single ticket.
- Journeys qualifying for Smartprice will be tagged with the Smartprice symbol once you have activated Smartprice.
Please note that to get the Smartprice discount on your trip, you must always start or end your trip outside Ruter’s tariff zone.
How the discount works
- The more you travel, the higher the discount.
- Once you have purchased tickets for an amount equivalent to the period ticket, the next purchases you make on the Smartprice route will be free.
- You earn discount when you are purchasing a ticket for both the whole or partial parts of the Smartprice route.
- Travelling between the two fixed stations gives more discount per journey, while a shorter route offers a slightly smaller discount – but still a discount.
You can only have one active Smartprice agreement, but you can end the agreement and switch to another route if necessary.
Keep track of your earned discount
In the Vy app on the ‘Ticket’ screen, you can find your active Smartprice agreement, including an overview of your journeys, the discount you have earned and how many days you have left.
Smartprice in Oslo
In Oslo, you have the option to choose between Oslo S or Nationaltheatret as your to/from station during the Smartprice period, as both of these stations are counted as one.
Who can use Smartprice?
Passengers in the Student (up to 30 years of age) and Adult ticket categories who buy their tickets using the Vy app can activate Smartprice.
Smartprice is available to people travelling long distances in Eastern Norway who are not covered by other public transport collaborations. This means that Smartprice is not available if you travel from Station A to Station B within the Ruter areas. One or both of the stations must be outside of the Ruter area in order for Smartprice to be available.
Smartprice also applies to journeys that have a train change en route.

Discounts
You will accrue Smartprice discounts on train journeys between two specific train stations, one of which must be situated outside of Ruter’s zones. If one of the stations you travel to or from is Nationaltheatret or Oslo S, both stations will be covered under the Smartprice agreement.
You will also accrue a discount if you are travelling only on parts of your Smartprice route. For example, if you have Smartprice for Moss-Oslo S, you will be able to use Smartprice to travel from Moss to Ås on a different day.
The Smartprice discount is not available for Lowfare tickets, as these have already been discounted. Smartprice is only available when buying single tickets for Eastern Norway via the Vy app.
You will earn Smartprice credits only after you have used the ticket you purchased. To ensure you earn credits and receive a discount, you should purchase each journey separately.
No discount is accrued on cancelled journeys.

If you purchase a train ticket and a Ruter ticket at the same time, you will automatically receive a Smartprice discount on the train ticket and a Reis discount on the Ruter ticket. Please note that it is not allowed to purchase Vy single tickets and Ruter single tickets separately for the same train journey. In order to combine single tickets, you must change trains or another mode of transport along the way. A ticket with a Smartprice or Reis discount is considered a single ticket.
Smartprice areas
Within the Ruter fare area, Ruter determines the ticket types and prices and Ruter uses different ticket types to Vy.
Yes, Smartprice is also available for journeys on the Gjøvikbanen Line.
In Vestfold/Telemark and between Lillehammer and Dombås you can buy 30-day combination tickets that are valid on several types of public transport. These tickets are made in collaboration with other operators and are often more beneficial than Smartprice.
You can use Smartprice in these areas, but it is only when you have travelled enough to reach the price of an ordinary 30-day season ticket from Vy that you get the full discount. Therefore, it is usually cheaper to choose a 30-day combination ticket instead of Smartprice.
Do you travel often?
If you travel frequently, buying a season ticket for 24 hours or 7, 30 or 365 days can save you money. It’s valid for an unlimited number of journeys in either direction on your chosen route.
