Train traffic in september 2025
After a challenging summer with many disruptions and crowded trains, we are working towards a better autumn.

What caused all the problems?
There are several reasons why train traffic has been problematic lately.
- Drammen Station was closed for construction for an extended period and reopened three weeks behind schedule. The work Bane NOR has done on the new double track will improve punctuality and increase departures going forward. However, during the construction period, the closure created major challenges. Many had to travel by replacement bus, resulting in significantly longer travel times.
- At the same time, our workshop in Drammen (Sundland) was nearly inaccessible. This led to a shortage of trains across Eastern Norway, and many of you have traveled on extremely crowded trains.
We fully agree that standing on an overcrowded single train set during rush hour is not a good experience. We are truly sorry that this has happened far too often, and we are working hard to make the train service more reliable, comfortable, and stable.
Now that Drammen Station has reopened, will everything improve?
Yes, now that Drammen Station is open again, we will gradually get more trains back in service, which will improve onboard capacity. However, we cannot promise that everything will run smoothly going forward. Upgrades and construction work are ongoing at the workshop, which means we have less access to maintenance than usual.
In addition, Norway’s worn-out railway infrastructure fails regularly, and we will continue to struggle with faults on the oldest local trains. This means we will still face train shortages in the time ahead.
But what we can promise is that, together with our partners, we will do everything we can to get you and the rest of our passengers safely to your destination.
Stay informed about railway maintenance
Bane NOR works on the railway year-round, and in September, several planned maintenance activities will affect our trains. On some lines, we operate replacement buses. Other lines will have cancelled departures without alternative transport. Some departures may have new schedules.
The largest works in September will take place on the Dovre Line north of Eidsvoll, towards Lillehammer and Dombås. This affects our RE10 line Drammen–Lillehammer.
We distinguish between planned maintenance and unforeseen incidents. If you have enabled notifications in the Vy app, you will be informed of any incidents.
