It’s easy to fall in love with Bergen

The people of Bergen are renowned for their patriotism and passion for their own city – and it’s no wonder. Nestled amidst the wild and beautiful Western Norway landscape is the city of Bergen with its riches of history, culture and experience.

Bergen – home to a World Heritage Site

Bryggen, the old Hanseatic wharf in Bergen, is world famous and needs little introduction. The unique wooden buildings have secured Bergen’s status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Perhaps less well known is the fact that Bergen is also a UNESCO City of Gastronomy – an exclusive title awarded to the world’s best and most gastronomically interesting cities.

One of the most beautiful rail journeys in the world

Take the train on the Bergen Line and you will travel through stunning and magnificent scenery. While away the hours gazing through the window and enjoy some of the most picturesque views Norway can offer. If you have a little extra time why not pause your journey at Myrdal and take the historic Flåm Railway to Flåm – before continuing on to Bergen.

The city at your feet

When you travel to Bergen by train you arrive in the city centre within a stone’s throw of more or less anything you can dream of. If you haven’t yet met your train quota on your trip, why not take a ride on the unique Fløibanen funicular that carries its passengers to the summit of Fløyen. At the top, you will find hiking trails, children’s play areas, a café and restaurant – not to mention the panoramic views of the city and its surroundings. You might also want to try out the Ulriken cable car which runs to the summit of Ulriken, the highest of Bergen’s seven mountains.Once you’re up there, you can do all sorts, including trying out a spectacular zipline that affords you incredible views of the city.
