If you buy a Vy season ticket and need to transfer onto Ruter services in zone 1, you can buy this in combination with your Vy ticket for an additional fee. This supplementary ticket is not valid for further train travel with Vy in Ruter’s zone 1. To use the supplementary ticket, the transfer station must be the train station in Oslo where you actually transfer between Vy’s train and Ruter’s means of transport. Transfer tickets for Ruter zone 1 are only valid if you have a 7-day or 30-day season ticket for adults.
Add-on tickets
Add-on tickets are for Ruter season ticket holders who want to travel beyond the zones covered by their season ticket. This ticket is also valid on Vy trains.
Do you have a Ruter season ticket on a travel card?
You can buy a ticket for an extra zone on board Ruter’s regional bus services and on Ruter ferry services. Add-on tickets cannot be purchased on board the metro, trams, Vy’s trains or from Entur’s ticket vending machines.
Combining Ruter and Vy tickets
- You cannot combine Ruter single tickets with Vy single tickets.
Example: If you are travelling from Hamar to Oslo S on a single ticket then you must purchase a Vy single ticket for the full journey. I.e. you cannot purchase a Vy single ticket between Hamar and Eidsvoll + a Ruter single ticket from Eidsvoll to Oslo S. - You can combine a Ruter season ticket with a Vy season ticket.
Example: If you commute between Hamar and Oslo S, you can purchase a Vy season ticket between Hamar and Eidsvoll in addition to a Ruter season ticket between Eidsvoll and Oslo S. - You can combine a Ruter season ticket with a Vy single ticket
The exception is if you are travelling on the Bergen Line. If you have a Ruter season ticket and are going to travel on a train that goes beyond the area your season ticket is valid for, you should purchase a Vy single ticket from the last station that your train calls at inside the area covered by your season ticket to the station where you are getting off.
Example: You have a Ruter zone 1 season ticket and are going to travel on an R10 service to Drammen. In order to have a valid ticket all the way to your destination, you must purchase a Vy single ticket from Lysaker to Drammen. - You can combine a Vy season ticket with a Ruter single ticket.
- Ruter add-on tickets can only be combined with Ruter season tickets.
- Primary and lower secondary school tickets and other school tickets can be combined with Vy single tickets without a seat reservation.
When you combine tickets from Vy and Ruter, you should use the last Vy station in the zone covered by your Ruter ticket as your ‘combination station’.
Ruter operates the 540 service to Moss in zone 4S. Tickets purchased for this zone are only valid on Ruter’s bus service and are not valid on Vy trains.
Ruter operates the 251 and 261 services in Ruter’s zone 5V. Tickets for these services can be purchased via the BrakarBillett app and are not valid on Vy trains.
