Luggage, accessibility and children on the bus
Here you can find information about what you can bring on board the bus, how to book wheelchair space and practical information about travelling with children.
Luggage and pets on the bus
In addition to hand luggage, passengers can bring a maximum of two items of luggage per person for free. This must be placed in the luggage hold. The maximum dimensions and weight per item are height + length + depth = 175 cm/23 kg. Hand luggage needs to be capable of being stored safely beneath the seat.
Luggage must be properly packed to prevent it damaging other luggage. Drivers may refuse to carry luggage that is not properly packed. All luggage must be marked with a name and phone number.
Do you need to bring more luggage?
If you pre-purchase your ticket, you can add more luggage before you pay. If you buy your ticket on board, you must pay for excess luggage when you pay.
Swedish services
On services operated by Vy Travel AB in Sweden (Oslo–Gothenburg/Copenhagen/Stockholm), you can bring one item of luggage in addition to hand luggage.
Your hand luggage must fit under your seat. If the luggage does not fit, it must be placed in the luggage hold.
You can bring a pram. Prams must be placed in the luggage hold as instructed by the driver.
Bicycles may be transported on bus line VY1, VY6, VY175 and FB11. To ensure it can be transported you must pre-purchase space for your bicycle. You do this by adding special luggage when you buy your ticket. We recommend that the bicycle is packed in a suitable bag, as it will be placed in the coach luggage hold.
Electric bicycles are not permitted. You may bring small electrically-powered vehicles, such as electric scooters. They must be placed in the coach luggage hold.
Lithium-ion batteries used in small electrically-powered vehicles may not be charged on board our buses.
You cannot bring bicycles on services operated by Vy Travel AB in Sweden (Oslo–Gothenburg/Copenhagen/Stockholm).
Skis and snowboards are regarded as a single item of luggage if they are properly packed.
Special luggage
You can bring a sleigh, golf bag or surfboard if this is pre-booked. The maximum dimensions and weight per item of special luggage is 50 x 60 x 220 cm/23 kg.
Make sure you take all of your luggage with you when you disembark. Luggage should be clearly marked with your name and phone number. Unfortunately, Vy is unable to check that passengers pick up the correct luggage and Vy is not liable for losses of luggage or damage caused by other passengers. Should passengers mix up their luggage, our customer centre will attempt to put the passengers in touch with each other, so they can swap the luggage back.

For the sake of fellow passengers, we cannot carry animals on board. We do not have separate transport holds suitable for animals, and the needs of our other passengers must therefore take priority.
Exceptions:
Animals must be carried in approved travel carriers. Tickets for animals cannot be bought online; they must be bought from the driver when boarding.
Travelling with animals to/from Sweden
Please note that if you are travelling to or from Sweden with animals in your care, it is important that you thoroughly familiarize yourself with customs rules and regulations ahead of your journey so that your pet will not be quarantined.
Dogs must have:
- a microchip implant with an unique ID-number
- a designated passport, which states the microchip ID-number
- documentation demonstrating that the dog has received preventative treatment against the cyclophyllid tapeworm Echinococcus multilocularis, mainly found in foxes.
Such ‘fox tapeworm’ treatment must have been administered by a veterinarian, no later than 24 hours prior to crossing the border into Norway. The veterinarian must certify the treatment in the dog’s passport.
Bus accessibility
People with disabilities have the right to travel with Vy as far as this is possible. You must be able to complete your journey unassisted, with a personal companion or with the assistance we are able to offer on the bus.
Yes, companians must pay for a bus ticket, but they get 50 percent discount on adult tickets. The companion must be able to present a valid companion card on the bus.
Yes, we want to assist you as far as practically possible. We can help with boarding, disembarking and securing your wheelchair, but unfortunately we are unable to assist with meals, medication, toilet visits or similar.
For safety reasons and due to the physical design of the bus, wheelchairs cannot exceed the following dimensions: Length 120 cm, width 70 cm, height 109 cm and total weight of 300 kg including you.
No, guide dogs or service dogs travel for free.
Children on the bus
No. However, children five and under only pay ten per cent of the full price of an adult ticket.
There are some child seats and booster seats, but these cannot be reserved. If you need a special infant seat, you can bring your own. Please note that not all buses have both Isofix and three point seatbelts.
We recommend that you reserve seats when travelling with small children, if the service permits reservations. This ensures you can sit together.
We want all children travelling unaccompanied to have a good, safe experience on board. It is also important that you, as the child’s guardian, feel confident when your child is travelling alone.
