Journeys involving transfers
When you travel with Vy trains, we give you a connection guarantee. When you travel with Vy buses and the journey involves a change, it is important to allow for sufficient transfer time.
What kind of transfer is there on your journey?
If you have bought a through ticket that involves changing between Vy trains (includes changing Vy trains running between Norway and Sweden), or changing trains between Vy and SJ NORD or Vy and Go-Ahead, then this includes a connection guarantee. If you are unable to make your booked connection as stated on the ticket, you will be accommodated on the next available departure without having to purchase a new ticket. The operator responsible for the delay will ensure that you are accommodated on a new departure. There is however no connection guarantee for journeys with a change between SJ NORD and Go-Ahead.
When changing between our express buses you should calculate a minimum of 30 minutes. If less time is calculated, you cannot be compensated for expenses for alternative transport or accommodation.
VY146 Oslo–Ulsteinvik/Måløy
When changing buses at Kjøs Bru towards Oslo, Ulsteinvik or Måløy, the bus will always wait.
VY450 Oslo/Bergen/Lillehammer
When transferring between departures on route VY450 at Fagernes Bus Station towards Bergen, Oslo or Lillehammer, the bus will always wait.
Transfer across borders
When traveling by bys to or from Sweden, extra time should be calculated, as there may be a queue at the border between Norway and Sweden.
For journeys other than those mentioned below, there is no connection guarantee, so please calculate sufficient time to transfer between train and bus.
RE10 and VY710 Oslo–Lillehammer–Trondheim
If you are planning to change from the RE10 rail service to Vy express VY710 at Lillehammer, the bus will wait if the train is delayed. The bus will wait for up to one hour in case of a delayed train. If the bus is delayed, your ticket will be valid for the next RE10 service. If the bus misses the last train service from Lillehammer, it will continue on to Oslo.
VY1 Kongsberg–Notodden
Vy’s VY1 bus service departing for Notodden waits for train L12 in Kongsberg. If the train is delayed, the bus will wait at Kongsberg station.
VY1 Oslo–Rjukan
Vy express VY1 departing from Oslo corresponds with Farte 185 at Rjukan. In case of a delay, Farte 185 will wait for all departures with Vy express VY1 from Oslo for up to 20 minutes. On Fridays, the bus waits for up to 30 minutes. If you still miss your departure with Farte 185, your ticket can be used on the next departure.
You are responsible for calculating sufficient transfer time between trains (from Vy, Go-Ahead or SJ NORD) or Vy buses and modes of transport from local operators, such as:
- Ruter
- Kolumbus
- Brakar
- Skyss
- Vestfold and Telemark county municipality
- Østfold kollektivtrafikk
- Innlandstrafikk
This also applies to connections between local operators, such as journeys involving both Brakar and Vestfold and Telemark county municipality.
We offer no travel guarantee for journeys involving local operators. Therefore, please look carefully at the times of arrival and departure when you buy your ticket and feel free to extend the proposed transfer time.
Some local bus lines have correspondence with Vy bus, and you will find that information in the travel search here on vy.no or in the Vy app.
Train
Please note that when travelling to Torp Sandefjord Airport or Oslo Airport Gardermoen, you must allow for at least 30 minutes of extra time upon arrival at the airport in addition to your airline’s standard check-in times.
For travels where you have opted for shorter transfer time allowances than we recommend, demands for reimbursement of expenses for alternative modes of transport or other expenses incurred due to missing a transfer, will not be granted.
Bus
When you take the bus to the airport it is important that you allow sufficient time. We recommend that you allow for one hour in addition to the airline’s check-in time. Remember that domestic and international flights have different requirements for check-in times.
In the event of planned deviations where a bus replaces parts of a train route, the bus may be given an earlier departure time than the train normally to ensure that the bus arrives at the transfer station in good time. Therefore, remember to check the travel search before your trip.
Please note that the train must run at the scheduled time and as a general rule cannot wait for a delayed bus.
If the bus is delayed, you will be given a seat on the next available train. If the last train has already left, or if there is more than one hour until the next departure, we will offer – as far as possible – alternative transport. In such cases, you will receive assistance from a customer advisor at the station or information from the bus driver.
If you transfer from a train to a rail replacement bus, and the train is delayed, the bus will wait for you for a while. If the delay becomes substantial, we will arrange other alternative transport.
