The easiest way to purchase season tickets is by using our app.
Alternatively, you can buy your season ticket from a ticket machine or at a staffed station, but not on board the train.
Smartprice is available in the Vy app when buying train tickets for journeys in Eastern Norway. When you buy a Single ticket from Station A to Station B, you will be given the option to use Smartprice. To accrue discounts, you need to travel between two specific stations and at least one of the stations you travel to/from needs to be outside of the Ruter fare area.
In Oslo, you can choose whether to use Oslo S or Nationaltheatret as your to/from station during the Smartprice period, as both stations are counted as one.
Smartprice will be activated for a 30-day period once you have purchased your first Single ticket. The next time you travel, simply buy a new Single ticket with Smartprice using the Vy app.

You can buy tickets for many of the municipal public transit services in the Vy app and at vy.no. We cooperate with Ruter, Skyss, Brakar, Østfold Kollektivtrafikk, Innlandstrafikk and Vestfold and Telemark county municipality.
The easiest way to retrieve tickets purchased online at vy.no is through the Vy app. Tickets may also be downloaded as a PDF.
If you were logged in when buying your ticket via vy.no, you will also be able to find the ticket in the Vy app. This means that you need to be logged in to the same profile in the app as when you bought the ticket at vy.no.
App for iPhone and Android
When you have purchased a ticket online at vy.no, you will receive a receipt with a booking number. When you enter the app, go to ‘Ticket’ and ‘Add ticket’. Enter your booking number here to download your ticket. This is a practical solution if you are purchasing the ticket for someone else, for example for children who do not have their own bank card.
It is the customer’s responsibility to have a valid ticket available when boarding a train. The prerequisite for travelling on Vy trains is that you can show a valid ticket at any ticket control. If you have purchased your ticket via a mobile phone, that phone must be accessible during ticket inspections. Make sure your phone’s battery is sufficiently charged so the device can remain on throughout your journey.
Print your ticket at home — or ride with a digital ticket
By choosing a PDF ticket, you can download the ticket yourself and bring it on board. You can print it out on paper or have it on your mobile phone, tablet or PC. PDF tickets are offered for travels that include at least one seat reservation, and for border-crossing travels between Oslo and Gothenburg.
It is not possible to change the name on the ticket, but it is also not necessary as you can use the ticket regardless of name. However, you must present proof of moderation if you are entitled to a discount, for example honoree/companion/student.
If you hold a Eurail- or Interrail Pass, you can get a 30 per cent discount on standard single tickets.
For tickets for SJ NORD and GoAhead departures, there is a booking fee of 2.8 per cent of the ticket price.
We do not offer a flexible ticket that can be used on several departures around Norway. It is also not possible to travel with an Interrail ticket in your own country. To travel around Norway by train, you must therefore order single tickets for the departures you want.
If you are interested in a Norwegian holiday with transport, hotel and activities included, then you can see if any of the tours of our partner, Fjord Tours, suit you.
You can buy tickets for all trains 115 days before departure, with the exception of the Flåm Railway, where you can buy tickets 120 days before departure.
There may be shorter sales periods if there is planned work on the train’s route or in connection with route changes, especially in June and December.
Gift cards are not available for purchase from us, but we do sometimes give them away.
Gift cards can be used to purchase tickets for Vy trains by visiting vy.no or using the Vy app. The exception is tickets for Vy trains running in the zones belonging to Skyss.
To pay using a gift card in the Vy app, you should select the ‘Change’ button when you reach the payment stage. You should then select ‘Add gift card’ and enter your 15-digit gift card code.
You may pay for your ticket using your gift card in whole or in part, and gift cards can be used on more than one occasion until there is no remaining balance.
Private persons can choose to pay for train tickets by invoice for purchases made through vy.no.
Invoice payments via Customer Service is a service reserved for companies, travel agencies, schools, institutions, associations/organisations, teams and groups who are booking a group journey.
If you miss your train, you cannot use the single ticket for a later departure. Single tickets are valid only for the departure specified on the ticket, so you must purchase a new ticket if you wish to travel on the next train.
If you purchased a Ruter ticket via the Vy app, Ruter’s rules regarding ticket validity apply.
It is not possible to buy tickets for sold-out trains. You can turn up and take the chance that there is capacity. The conductor then makes an assessment just before departure. If there is no capacity on board, you will not be able to get on the train.
There can be many reasons for this, such as:
- There is something with your browser that makes the purchase solution not work optimally. We recommend that you try again with Chrome.
- If your profile is registered with a phone number that contains the special character +, then this can lead to errors during payment.
- There may be something wrong with your saved payment card. Try deleting this and saving it again.
- If you have tried to buy a ticket for a sold-out departure, the payment will fail, so try another departure.
If you have purchased a ticket in the Vy app, you can email the receipt to yourself. Go to Profile > Purchase history, select the journey in question, and tap More. Then select Send receipt, enter your email address, and the receipt will be sent to you.
There can be various reasons for this:
- You were not logged in at the time of purchase and entered the wrong email address. In that case, contact customer service to have a receipt sent to you.
- If you were logged in, check the email address associated with your Vy profile - maybe it was a different address than the one you usually use?
- The email may have been classified as spam, so please check this. This is particularly common for customers who use an email address associated with their company.
Occasionally there have been errors in our back-end systems for short periods, which means that e-mails are not sent. Then the e-mails are sent out immediately after the error has been fixed.
Single tickets sold by Vy on behalf of SJ, GoAhead and Kolumbus include a booking fee. This covers the administration costs associated with handling the tickets in the Vy app and on vy.no.
When cancelling an SJ NORD, GoAhead or Kolumbus ticket purchased from Vy, the booking fee will not be refunded.
No, you do not need to include the names of all the people travelling. You only need the name of the person who is booking the tickets.
No, unfortunately refugees and asylum seekers are not entitled to free train journeys with Vy. This also applies to refugees from Ukraine.
